Congressional Email Directory
Jeffrey Hoffman has created this page as a tool for locating and contacting your elected representatives. Both homepage links and email addresses, where applicable, are included.

Cool Government Site of the Week
Quirky page - past winners include "The US Postal Service 10 Most-Wanted Posters," "Astronaut Flight Menu," and "Human Radiation Experiments." It is outdated now, however.

Department of Energy
Includes links to various DOE departments, news, and resources.

Search all DOE document titles:

Search OpenNet, which includes references to all declassified DOE documents:

The Electronic Activist
An email-address directory for members of Congress, state governments, and US media entities.

Federal Aviation Administration File Search
Search for descriptions of almost 1,000 FAA documents (not content from the documents themselves). You can also browse lists, or indexes, of FAA documents. The search engine ignores special characters like the "-" character in DC-9 and treats DC and 9 each as one word. Instead, search for DC AND 9.

Select the directory from which you wish to retrieve files:

Federal Communications Commission
Regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable. Stop by and say hi to Reed Hundt and friends. They've overstocked with wireless! Everything must go!

Concept Keywords

Federal Government Agencies
Lists more government agencies than you knew existed. Divided into executive, judicial, legislative, quasi-official, and (even) other categories.

FedWorld
Consolidates many federal links and information. Search the site or browse through the well-constructed subject index.

Government Printing Office
Search for full texts simultaneously through the GPO's stash: US Code, Code of Federal Regulations, Federal Register, Congressional Record, GAO reports, Privacy Act, and many more. Hold down your shift or option key to select more than one database to search. Phrases must be in quotation marks (" "). The operators ADJ (adjacent), AND, OR, and NOT can be used, but must be in capital letters. For example: "environmental protection agency" AND superfund.

Internal Revenue Service
Tax forms and tax-related information. Enough said.

Library of Congress
Search the Library of Congress using their Web gateway below - or through a telnet interface, which lets you search for federal legislation as well. Go to the LOC site for more narrow searches and a Vietnam War-era POW/MIA database. The LOC database is available 6:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Sunday (all times Eastern).

Title Personal name (ex. "Gore, Al")

National Science Foundation
An independent federal agency promoting science and engineering. Their external links page is a broad listing of research sites.

Enter keywords, separated by commas:

National Security Agency
The NSA is actually a front for the presidential bakery. It's all very hush-hush, so no one can trace the midnight donuts back to the president. Stewart Baker, chief counsel for the NSA, swam upstream in "Don't Worry, Be Happy," Wired 2.06.

Recent US Government Reports
Here you can search abstracts of recent US government reports, studies, and information products sent to NTIS within the past 30 days. NTIS is the largest single source for public access to federally produced scientific, technical, engineering, and business-related information (they get roughly 7,000 such docs per month). You can also view the full NTIS Bibliographic Database, containing more than 1.6 million citations for government documents dating back to the '20s. To further customize your search, visit the Recent US Government Reports page.

Search Terms:

Sandia National Laboratories
A repository of technical details concerning the American nuclear arsenal. Where all the bugs are ironed out, as in "Are we sure this is going to go off when it hits Cuba?" See Richard Rapaport's "The Playground of Big Science," Wired 3.10.

Use quotes, as well as "and" and "or," to restrict searches.
